Project Spotlight: Stump Removal and Bed Renovation at Cove Apartments

Cove Apartments in Anoka had a handful of problems that had piled up over time: old tree stumps left in the ground along the parking lot, privacy wall, and building corners, plus bare dirt and thin plantings where full beds should have been. Clearline handled it as one coordinated job, from grinding out stumps to planting and mulching the beds that replaced them.

Where It Started

Bare dirt, weeds, and two old tree stumps along the privacy wall at Cove Apartments before renovation

Conditions like this stretch along the privacy wall behind the parking lot showed up in a few spots around the property: bare dirt and weeds, old stumps still in the ground from trees removed earlier, and rock beds that had gone thin. It's the kind of thing that's easy to let go a section at a time, but it was the first thing tenants and their guests saw walking to their cars.

Same corner, same angle, before and after. This bed along the walkway had old rock, no plants, and an edge that stopped short instead of following the sidewalk all the way to the street. Clearline extended the bed, added edging and fresh rock, and planted it to give this corner the finished, professional look the rest of the property was going for.

At the Building Corner

This corner had an old stump sitting right in the middle of the rock bed. Once the grinder cleared it and a few others around the property, new plants went in where the stump had been, a new tree went in next to it, and fresh plantings filled in the rest of the bed along the walkway.

By the Leasing Office

The walkway along the side of the building near the leasing office had the same problem: a rock bed that had been sitting untouched with old stumps still in it. Cleared out and replanted.

The Result

Once the beds were cleared, the crew moved through planting: augering holes for shrubs, setting new plants, and working ornamental grasses in along the sidewalk beds facing the street. Fresh rock went down last at every bed, on top of the new plantings, so the whole property reads as newly finished instead of just recently dug up. Three different corners of the property, three different problems, the same standard applied to all of them.
